ABSTRACT OF THE HOSPITAL, REPORT. During the past eventful year the work of the hospital has been continued without inter- ruption. Some embarrassment was felt during July and August when most of the native helpers left on account of the alarming reports current in the City, but patients were received as usual and the total number of inpatients has been larger than that of most previous years.
Professor Andrew H; Woods, M. D., rendered valuable service for three months during the summer, when very few foreigners remained in Canton, except on the foreign concession.
The purchase of new property on the East side of the hospital has permitted of much needed improvements being made. More thorough ventilation has been effected and the six main hospital buildings are left largely free from the noise and confusion of the kitchens and servants quarters, formerly in close prox- imity to the wards but now removed to the new property.
