He was then informed that the cause of delay in producing the will was, that, owing to its being partly rotted through damp, it had got torn when being opened, and bad to be dried before a fire and mended with gummed paper before it could be safely submitted to being handled for inspection. As there is no reason to imagine that this particular will was more negligently dealt with than others of equal or greater age, the inference is that a considerable number of those at Somerset House must be in a more or less advanced stage of decay.

THE NEW WAR LOAN.

Sir Thomas Jackson has courteously for warded to us the following telegram sent from the London office of the Hongkong and Shang- bai Bank at request of Her Majesty's Govern

ment:-

BANK OF ENGLAND, March 9th, National war loan issue of loan of £30,000,000 bearing interest at 2 pa. to be redeemed at par on the 5th April, 1910 Price of issue fixed by H.M. Treasury of £98 105.. per cent. The Governor and Company of the Bank of Eng land give notice that they are authorized to receive applications for this loan which will take the form either of inscribed stock or of bonds to bearer at the option of the subscribers The interest at 28 per cent. p.a. and the capital will be a charge on the consolidated fund of the United Kingdom. The books of the loan will be kept at the Bank of England and at the Bank of Ireland. Dividends, will be paid quarterly in the same manner and on the same dates as the dividend on Consols. The first dividend (also a full 3 months' dividend) will be paid on the 5th July and the second dividend (also a Tu 3 months' dividend) on the stb October.

There being no questions, the Chairman moved that the report and accounts be adopted, Mr. J. R. Michael seconded and the motion was carried..
