A SIRE woke out at 5 a'clock yesterday after noon says the N.CP). News of 19th instant in a Chinese shanty (V 279) in an alleyway off the North Szechuen Read close to the Boune Road and abutting on Feitaiho Lane. Six houses, Xas, 26 to 272, the property of Messrs. E. D. Sasson & Co, are totally destroyed. The property is insured in the South British, and the loss is, estimued at Tls. 1,500. The fire bruke o in the upper storey, but it is not known low. Ya Sha Tin, the Manager, was defended by Mr. Ewens and Cann Sze, the Accountant, by Mr. Sharp.
Mr. Ewens asked that the two cases might be taken separately, and it was agreed that, in order to save tinie, Mr. Sharp would be allowed to cross-exantine'a, witness. The case against Defendant Yu Shao Fin was first taken.

By Mr. Ewens-He did not know Yu Fuk. When he spoke to defendent he did so through an interpreter. Defendant was brought to him as the manager of the Kwan Wo Loong and said he was manager of the Chop Vik Godown and that his name was Yu Fuk.
J. A. Mackay, BC, said he had searched the ruins caused by the fire and had found a box of ammuniton (produced) in No. 2 Godown. It was on the left hand side of the door between it and the window and was heneath 2 feet of rubbish. He had also found some exploded cartridges on the 27th ulto. in No. 2 Godown (produced); he bad not counted them. He found no more in No. 2 Godown but in No. 3 he found some more explored cartridges, he had subsequently Tound a quantity of melted lead and exploded cartridges in No. 7.
