On the Club ground, the Happy Valley at the Club just managed to scrape through with a win, by a narrow margin of one goal. It seems that the Club is likely in lose its laurels be fore very long. There are teams in the Colony that can beat them and there are others that will. Choto Fa, to make enquiry respecting the circumst unces connected with the foundering of the British steamship Hupek, official No. 99,024 of London. George Henry Pennefather, Master, number of whose certificate of com- petency is ot5,284, was Master and comminander. The letter of Mr. George Henry, Pennefather of the Zupe applying for an inquiry and the warrant constituiing the Court were both read. The first witness called was Capt. Penne father who said he was master of the Hupek and held a master's certificate issued in 1892. He had been master of the fupeh since 26th June last. The finch was owned by the Tais koo Sugar Refinery Co. of Hongkong. Witness gave description of ship, she had a six water. light compartments coming right up to the main deck. Was not quite sure whether she was past by Lloyds. She left Java on the 6th November last, "with a full cargo of raw sugar in baskets, bound for Hongkong. She had a full complement of officers and crew and was well found in every possible way.
