NOTES AND COMMENTS..
THE TRANSVAAL CRISIS.
Events with regard to the crisis in the Transvaal are, moving but sowly, the Bri- tish authorities to not appear to be in a hurry to precipitate matters and secur desirous to spin out the time by diplomatic negotiations. We have heard many folk express the opinion that to do so is simply su much time wastini, but we do not shares this opinion. If war is, to come, then it will be just as well to have everything prepared forit; men, horses, guns and ammunition upon the spot and the commissariat department ready to the last ounce of tea and biscuit. It must not be forgotten that the troops were not to leave India for South Africa until to-day and so, by delaying mitil the 29th, when our demands are to be be considerelin Council, time will be gained to allow these roops to get well upon their way and in the event of an outbreak of hostilities w shall be prepared to act on the offensive at oner without any weary delay trailing the arrival of reinforcements." It is not Lan be wondered at that the British Gover

It may be that the Boersing money in constret a short railway from will commence hostilities, and if so no doubt Peking to Kalgan, and that it is believed that our men who are now on the spot will be prepared to art until their reinforcements arrive.
