The Hon. C. P. Chater With regard to the Kem of $40,000, I think hon. members would like some further information. How came it that the Government had to pay some $20,000 on account of “Beaconsfield, and why" was il paid over without information being given to honourable gitmbers?

The Chairman-The Govemment "did" not consider themselves liable for the amount. The case was tried in the Supreme Court; as is no doubt known to all honourable members, pro sent, and the Govenment had to pay the money because the case went against them.”
