MR. Weir, the China Merchant Company's superintendent, was put through the Shanghai Surpreme Count the other day by "Mr. T. The alleged defamation was contained in a letter said to have been written to the directors by Mr.Weir, but the plaintiff failed to prove the letter, and without the defence being called upon to reply, he was non-suited. Shortly before eigin o'clock this morning information was received at the Central Police Station to the effect that fire had broken out on the tank steamer Sabine Rickmers lying off Lat-chi-kok. The fire brigade with the water fire engine immediately proceeded to the ship. and in about twenty minutes tanaged to get the outbreak, which was confined to the stoke, hold, under control. The ship was then towed In a safe position off Stone-cutter's Island, where she is now lying.
