TAIKOO SPORTS MEETING.
Every year the Taikoo Club's Sports are becoming more popular. Yesterday the Club held their Eighth Annual Meeting, and quite two thousand people were assembled on their complete and pretty little recreation ground, The weather-was-perfect-and-the-meeting proved an unqualified success. Too much cannot he said of the Committee, who worked so land for the enjoyment of the visitors. Messrs Dawson and Whiting as "Lost" and
whathe" made every one smile, from head. to font:
At the conclusion of the Sports Mrs. Poate distributed the prizes, the value of which amounted to about $co-rather an improve ment on the prizes offered at the Club's first meetings, and an indication of their growing popularity. By the kind permission of Lieut Col Retallick the Hongkong Regiment Band played during the afternoon.

That is why I said in my former letter that even international law had to give place to the just wishes of a country of millions of souls because their cause is the cause of humanity, civilization and progress.
Far be it from me to have intended, in my -last letter to say that all international law's would have to give way before my wishes. Alr I meant was that under certain circumstances, such as these present ones, cermin generally held laws, fave to be put aside before the wishes of a people who are actually fighting for the recognition of the bulk of these laws.
In the same way, General, when I said that we held these prisoners for the purpose of forc- ing the Spaniards to set the Filipinos they held at liberty, and to make the Vatican allow the rights of the Filipino clerials, I do not mean that we founded our claim to keep them prisoners on these things were brought to pass it would these reasons but, merely to indicate that if then be a most oppurtune moment for us to set the wishes of my people.
