The circumstances are nearly the same as those in the case reputed upon in C.S.0.—with the addition that the amount of correspondence dealt with in the current has 'lncreased by at least 30 per cent.

I need hardly remind you thatit bas long been setiled that the Post Office is sadly la need of adequate accommodation, and I think that in the circumstances the staff did their work very well or at least as well as they could on a day when probably there was more work to he got through than on any other day in the existence of the Colony,

Measures for increasing the accommodation will have to be taken era lang vlow of the fact that according to the latest scheme complete four years. new Post Office cannot be expected for at least

deemed by His Excellency to be sufficient; If I trust that the above explanation will be not, might I venture to suggest a personal inspection from time to time to satisfy the Gav- crament that my costeusion regarding accom modation is correct.

Addendum. Enclosure to Chamber of Commerce letter. 1. Report by Superintendent of Registration Branch attached stowing work dore,

The Postmen might have been delayed rather later than usual la the General Branch on account of the reasons set forth in report and as they had a good deal to take cut It would be soine time before they accomplished their rounds,

2. Dealt with above,

dealt with la Superintendent's report.

3. Only one Instance has come to my notice,

4. No cases were brought to my notice, mail was ready with the French mail. It is impossible for me to do anything fave such complaints (3) and (4) unier Articles 44-46 of the Postal Guide are complied with. The public generally giva no assistance to this department; the writing of abstract complaints often couched in offenire terms is of oa help.

In conclusion, I gulto agree with the Cham. her in (a) o! thele letter, but the thing to do is to get a pises put the staff in.

The only places that occur to me are the rooms generally coupled by the Atlamay General and Crown Solicitor, or the ground floor of the Clab opposite.

The latter would be more convenient in many Ways.

I must agalo erga upon Government that the day in question wis one of maximum pressure such as occurs ontr once in a year or two, and

the staff in to be sufficient for such extra- ordinary occasions it would mean very easy work during the majority of the days of the year.

At the same time I must say that the clerks in the Post Office are at present the most bard worked of any in Government Departments, (58) A. M. THOMSON,
