ELECTRIC LIGHTING FOR SINGAPORE.
The Straits Times understands that Mesim. Donaldo and Burkinabaw, acting for Mr. Gran Mackie, have submitted, or are proceeding to submit, a series of disinite proposals to the Singapore Municipality for the eteenie lighting of the town. Flat, Mr. Grant Mackle offers 10 deposit £10,000 as security that he will canty out the contract which he proposes. His pro- posal is to erect la Singapore a rullable electric Installation, and to apply the light to the stiest lamps at the rate of five pence per Board of Trade unit per hour. He rabolts figures to show that, on the basis of the 1,030 street lamps at present sapple with light by the Gas Company, there would be a clear saving to the Municipality of $8,0ce a year. That is to say, the Municipality at present pays $50,000 a year for a specific quantity of light for specific number of bours,' for 1,010 lampe, for precisely the some quantity oflight, as measured
