The appearance of a shark in the barbour is by no means so unusual en occurrence as cor morning contemporary appears to imagine. Sharks are quite comman in Hongkong watcin, and, al certain seasons of the year, a fleet of some twenty to thiriy boats may be seen off the Kowloon Dack Polnt engaged in fishing for them with considerable success. These sharks, however, seldom reach more than six feet in length and are not of an aggressiva nature, con. lenting themselves with feeding upon any offel Ibrown overboard from ships or brought down by the tide, while iteir small sirs renders them comparatively harmless. As sharks have been in the harbour from time immemorial and wo have no local shark fataliifts on record, it may alely be taken that there is no danger to bathers to be apprehended. The reason that they are so seldom seen lies in the fact that they belong to the family of basking sharks, and spend the greater part of their lives at the pany of pelty officers and scament.
