The Board of Directors submit herewith their Report and Statement of Accounts for the year 1897.
The notes of the ergan ceased, and a great lence descended upon the congregation. All fall upon their knees-the fairhaired childre round the grive, the venerable lady who, with strongest fortitude, had sloed between her two sos throughout the service, the mourners who were bound to him by ties of kindred, the mourners who were tied to him by bonds of affection and respect-even the people who perred through the rallings kenelt. The Arch. bishop slote remained standing. Strong, hope.
They are glad to kay that their salicipation fol, helpiel, commanding, he stood among the il ck with his great head thrown back, pronounc-

The Prince Furned as'de, and along the line of and to carry forward a balance of £1,3-0, 7.0

Gladstone's two sons raised her, and for the fist time the sat in the chair which bad been placed for her at the head of the grave. As yet slobody moved, but while she sat there suddenly the Prince of Wales crossed to her, and, stooping, kiszed her band. There could have been so homage more perfect, no act of sympathy mare kladly and lacere. The Premier followed the Prince, and to him Mar. Gladstone spoke; and alter him others came to the place where she sat like that stricken mother who bide kings come-baw to the throne where she and sorrow dit. At last, however, the title procession ended, and Mrs. Gladstone, with her children passed away from the grave. The triumphant march of Handel had now ceased, and with the sadder notes of Schubert's Maiche Solennelle" echoing in their ears the assemblage slowly left the Abbey, leaving great behind them the great man who is now one of

Although there has been no material increase In the local irade, circumstances have caused beller rates of freight to prevall during some portion of the year. The Increased toanage added to the flout fa 1896, and which only came lato full work during the past year, has also to baiakes into account, the newer vesicla naturally Tommieding some preference.
There have been fally the manal number of minor claims upon Underwriting Account, bai no total loss; and the Account sow stands in a very satisfactory position, with balance at credit of £109 283, Up to the present time in 1898 no serious disaster has occurred.
