THE KOWLOON HOTEL.

The clasing of the Mount Auttle Hotel, though not sorpiklag alace the place was urgently nceded by the milļtity authoʻlides and was never very remunerative as a hotel, nevertheless deprived the Colony of what was really wanted and never so badly wanted as when it was lost, namely good, well allusted, well-kept, first- class hotel out of the town. Under the able management of Messis, J, D.. Humphreys and Son, it became exceedingly popular, and it is greatly missed. The Kowloon Hotel is now making a bid for that class of 'boelaces. It is in a splendid situation-many people think it absolutely the ñaest situation in the Colony, mad all must admit that it is very fine-It fa qulet, away from the dla and disturbance of the cliy, away from coelle-crowded streets and endless smells of sewers It is in a delightful garden, ona hijack commanding an iden) view; it is never befogged like the Psak, and it is con- siderably more convenient. So much for the situation. The building is very loadequate at present; but like the boy who was too young for the army, "that will be reméåled, as soon as possible." The wlaners are to be congratulated on the fue show they have made all through the com. petition and we venture to say that all will admit that sheer merit has brought them out top. Of their players both backs, the centre hall, outside right and centre forward pleased as best. The outside left was exceedingly clever and was a thorn in the side of the R. The R. A played very stubbornly bat were met by a cleverer team. It is very creditable for thens to get so far in the competition so we can only wish them better luck next time. Their goal keeper, backs, and out side were most pro- minent on their side.

After the match Mrs. Black congratulated the winners and handed over the shield to the Cap tain of the team and each man a gold medal,
