Ibanking Yim for a hard and very efficient work with me during the past and present yachting reasons. Ha la a very keen polo player and the best I can wish him is that he will be como aa fino a player as he is a yachƐsman. There remains only Mr. Wood to mention emlotsly enough I dreamt of him the other night." I dicit that I was home on leave and down at Harfogbam to watch an important Polo match. One of the players distinguished himself exceedingly and I thought that In the perfect easy seat, the lithe figure and the raddy locks, I recognised a former Hangkang player. After the watch was over and the player I was particularly watching had to stop "bitilog goals, I drom near and recognited in the hero of the bout the brilliant Captain of the 14th Regiment's team. I am sure that my dream will come true and that if Mr. Wood has only the opportunties to continue playing he will some day at sin the very front rank of Polo layers. To bim as Captain of his Re gimental Team is duo the credit of the organ- saties whleb ensared to It, victory, and to him are due the thanks of all Hongkong Polo-players for the impetus that his cxcnitions have given to the game. (Cheers and musical honors).
Mr Wood said:--Mr. Chairman and senile men, I thank you very much for the very kind way in which you have drank my health and the health of the Regiment teams- cl which I have the honour of being Captain. We are very much fadebted to Mr. May for to very generously presenting Cup to be played for, which has done a great deal Improve Polo here. On our arrival in the Colony and bearing of this Cup 1 determined that we must endeavour to have a shot for 1, In our first attempt, handicapped us we were with only 4 fadifferent ponies between us, we made a very poor show, as we were beaten by the ganners by goals to 3. Theleaf er we made a
Astrenuous efforts to rales some more and beiter ponies and get our team togather, with the result that we have been successful In wlaning the Cup three times in snccessfor, which I attribute à great deal to the fact of the un- fortunate illness of Captain Loveband, one of our best players, who was unabia to compete in any of the teams against us on the last three occasions. - I must say I have bad a very good time in Hongkong. I have never, been id a place where sport was so thoroughly supported In overy branch, and I am sure when we are in Singapore on every Monday, Wednesday and Felday we shall think of the good games of Polo we bad on Causeway Bay and long to be there. Before sitting down I wish to propose the health of Captain Burney and the gunners' team. Cap. tain Buracy has done a lot for Fola bere sad ii it had not been for bfs ontling energy and sport- ing lestfacts to always bringlög a gunners' team to the fore and working up Fola generally we should not have had such good matches dorlog the past year. I want you to drink the health of Captain Barney and the gunners' team. (App'ance),
