In the Supreme Court to-day Mr. Pollock, while LEGAL INTELLIGENCE, addressing the Court, mida reference to a " letter written by the plaintiffs' lawyers," whereupon be was promptly pulled up by Mr. Francis with the remark "Solicitors, you mean." This was to- make it clear that the letters had not been wyliten by barrister-which is comsilmes done in Hongkong, though. It is properly salicitara work. The inference was not that a solicitor is no lawyer, but that the latter term is ambiguous. In one sense, either a solicitar or a barzluter may sometimes be described as "no lawer; there is one legal practitioner in Japan nicknamed "Mr. Necessity," because the old proverb, says "Necessity knows no law,"
