HOMOKONO, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1897,

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The best means of disposing of the sewage of towns is a problem which has exercised the minds of sanitary experts all the world over from time immemorial. Various methods have been adopted in different localities for getting rid of the sewage, and, among others, that of the sewage farm has met with no small measure of success. It now appears that an experiment of the sort is being tried at Sassoon's corner, where the P.W.D. authorities are at present raising a fins crop of grass on the adjacent Reclamation, presumably depending on the blocked drain in the vicinity to fertilise the land by the process of percolation. As yet, we have not been able to ascertain whether either of the Dairy Farms has applied for the grazing rights on the new pasture land, or whether the Govern ment, In view of the unsettled state of affairs, intends to raise fodder for a prospective regiment of dragoons. At all events we shall watch the development of the new experimental sewage farm with

interest.

We have received two printed docu- ments from Foochow glying two versions of an unseemly dispute which has arisen in connection with the Foochow Printing Press. The parties to the dispute appear to have been French; Portuguese and Chinese, and the language of their com- munications was English, except when swear-words were required, and then
