An exceedingly rich vein of coal has recently been discovered by the foreign engineering staff of the Kiangsu Miolog Bureau, at a place called Tsinglungshan, or Dick Diagon Hill, not far from Nanking. This is reported to be the best of all the coal mines dhcovered and surveyed last year by the Bureau, which is, under the Directorship of Hu Chia-chen, Salt Intendant of this province and the elder brother of H.E. Hu Yü-fea, Governor of Peking and Director-in-Chief of the Peking-Tientsin Raliway. Work on all the new mines will begin this year, and foreign machinery and pumps will be provided for them, so that regular supplies of anthracite can be sent to the depots in Hankow, Chinklang, and Shanghal by the spring of 1898.
