RABBIR BURNS.
A concert in commemoration of the birch of Robert Burns will be held to the St. George's Hall, City Hall, to-night si 9.15.
When the centenary of Somtland's famous poet was celebrated some months ago, the way in which Caledonians from the North and Suth Joined in dolog homage to the "Sweet Stage” was a strik. Ing proof that his tongs are dear is ever to his countrymen, and that his words sill. breathe ali the patriotic split and love of liberly that has long made them precious to Scotsmen. In every clime where Caledonia's sous have made their homes the centenary of Robert Baran war honoured; in sameinstances all that could be done way to send a subscription home from Isolated parts, where neighbours are low and far between, and otherr, to happler clicumstances, jolaed la the erection of statues of the man they loved so well. Even Hitle country towns in the remote districts of Australią had some share in the celebration and the songs of Burns werd to be heard making musical places that before only heard the screech of parrots or the diamal bowl of the dingo. In the South Seas, Now Zealand, India, Africa, America, China-where, Indeed, are not Scots to be lound?—the usme fend spirit of love and reverence characterised the celebration, and the Ayeshire poet's rallick ing songu gladdesed many a hear, while those other beautiful compositions of ble gave many a wrench to heart strings. for a glimpse of the "auld countrie" onca mora.

Over 300 old people were regaled and such a gathering of Volunteers, Marcos, Oddfellows, and the gea- eral publie had probably never before been seen in the royal and ancient burgh. The Post Laureate pald graceful tribute to Bwns and said that his position on the pinnacle of fame had been ratified by the abltrament of lime and he, could never be displaced.
