ANOTHER INCIDENT I

We understand that last Tuesday night Chinese prisoner. confined la à solitary cell·la Victoria Gack witempted to escape, but falled to get clean away, owing to one of the Sikh warders, can Noor Mahamed, on night duty cutting' him down with sword bayonet. The prisoner's number is said to be 610 and is reported that he received two rather severe sword wounds-one on the arms and the other down the back. We also hear that the prisoner lo question was serving a term of 47 daya! hard labour for petty larceny, and that he will not be charged in the Police Court with sitempting to escape from custody, for it ha been decided that the matter shall be dealt with by the Superintendent of the Gaci.

The prisoner la said to be a mere stripling 18 years of age, and it seems that he has a very small head and is very thin. So thin, in fact, that he was able to squeeze his head and body through the Iron bars of his cell (6 faches wide) and thus got out late one of the yards, whence he hoped to make good his escape by scaling one of the boundary walls,
