NOTES AND COMMENTS.

Utah has, after many years' delay, been admitted into the Union as a State. The Bill authorising her admission was passed in 1894. Last year she formulated a constituilon for herself, and on the 6th of Jondary last she was, formally recognized and enrolled. This adds another star to the flag of the United States, making the forty-fifth, and bas necessitated a change In the size of the flag from the old "six feet by five" to five feet six inches by four feet four inches. Utah has an area equal to the combined areas of England, Scotland and Wales, and has a population, of only 260,000. Under the new constitu- tion women have equal rights with men in all respects, the franchise. Included. What will they do with It?

There are very few Chinese in the Colony, comparatively speaking, who have any valid claim to English nationality.
