This was served in the Theatre Royal, which had been magnificiently decorated for the occasion, the stage, whereon the distinguished guests above named were served, being indeed a fairy-scene. The fout ensemble at this was charming, and there is great foom for doubt whether lis magnificence has ever been equalled, much less surpassed, in the Colony or the Far East. Immediately in front of the stage were placed enormous batons of beef, which were carved in full view of every one. Running up the centre of the theatre was one long table, this being supported on either side by other tables at right angles to it, across the hall. The balcony was very, tustofully hung with festoons, while Masonic aptons made a most effective addition on the white and gold of the permanent decorations. The dress circle was filed with small tables, at which a large number of guests were accommodated. All

It signifies little whether the universal dielike of which we are the object is due to the bearing and manners, of individual Englishmen in their intercours with Individual foreigners, to the arrogance, of the British Government and press, to cry and jealousy, or bumill-
