The latest and minst Important arrest has been that of an Thlon Ling, well-known to Ears anean residents, as he is the Captain of the Chinese, and one of the richest of his nation in Jaya. The report of his arrest could not be believed by anybody, and caused a great semi- tlon in the Chinese camp. A Chinese furniture maker has also been arrested for having in his possession counterfeit Rank notes amounting to L250,000. In Han Tiong Ling's boose there way nothing further discovered but a number of sealed papers, the contents of which are not yet known. However, a search of his out-houses and garden brought to light suspicious complicity. In the stables, covered with manure, was an old lithographic hand-press. If complete, It certainly could have been used in the manufacture of the counterfeit potes. This discovery was made at the instance of the stable boy. Han Tjiang Ling immediately asserted that he received this press
from his flend Kwee Khe Soo, at whose request it was kept hidden. If this statement is true, this press must have been the one bought by Kwee Khe Soe from Messrs. Gimberg & Co. But I supposed that this Instrument could not have been used for counterfeiting five hundred and thousand guilder notes, but probably for notes of smaller values, that were found to be la circulation on previous occasions. In the river before Han Tjinng Ling's house two lithographic plates were brought up by divers, and also some machinery belonging to the old press, which he asserts he cannot account for. The Harbour Master and Custom's Officers have received orders to take every precaution to prevent any escapes by sea. On the morning of the 17th Instant it was expected that the houses of certain Europeans, who have been'in close connection with these Chinese, would be searched. There are other Chinese In Sourabaya, who, with their families and servants, have been placed under police sufvelliance, but their compllelty has yet to bel proved:
