„TAKSUL, December 28th,
A very interesting ceremony was brought to a successful and memorable issue on the 23h (the better the day the better the deed!) at the Briilih Consulate in this historical port. The occasion was the presentation of decorations from the Japanese Government to Mesars, G. M. T. Thomson, Obly and Davison. These gentlemen, I should remind readers of the Tigraph, rendered valuable services to the Japanese when they had captured Keleng and were cautiously advancing on Tustulis, the capital of this island province. They went out, practically unarmed, and at lemtsent risk to themselves, and marched down the itne till they met the Japanese advance guard of about 500 men, whom they informed that the capital could bo easily and safely taken by a mere handful of determined men, for the Government officials had decamped, the Republic was a thing of the pas', and the fregalar troops were plundering the these daring civilians and at once advanced city in every direction. The Japanese believed rapidly on the capital, which they captured with consummate esse and at once detached troops to protect the foreiga settlement. Thus they performed an important service for the placky lavaders, and at the same time undoubtedly served well the foreigners resident at Tustutis, for they were in danger of being molested and robbed by the undisciplined soldiery "who committed shocking depredations in Tastails as soon as the erstwhile President of the mush
