It is unfortunate that Reuter has a most unhappy knack of wiring out to the Gorgeous East a lot of news which is unexpectedly notified here, and the epidemic Thus the Frisco Call of the 18th October is elther wholly uninteresting or. Is so to be almost Inadequately given as unintelligible, and consequently not nearly so Interesting or useful as it might be. Reuter usually errs on the right side, though, and as far as Information goes sticks rigidly to the bare truth. Recently, however, he appears to have been elther grievously misinformed or else his messages have been seriously mutilated, as the following from the semi-official Japan Mal of the 29th ultimo, which speaks for itself, clearly demonstrates:—
"The following telegram, forwarded by Reater, "ppeared in our columns on the 23rd Instant p
Lardon, October arat.
Price Lobanoff, at an interview with the German Emgarw, mid that six cannot tolerate the Japane sahilching them- free is one where their prosence would be a contional mace to both Rusela and China, This intelligence naturally exused some excite ment in-the-East, not merely on account of its character, but also because of the circumstances under which Prince Lobanoff was, uaid to have spoken. Several local journals commented on the news, drawing more or less serious Inferences from it. We now learn, however: that according to official Information received from Berlin, Prince Lobanoff, in his audience with the Emperor of Germany, did not make use of the language attributed to him by the above telegram. It is singular that Reater should 18-d such statements scross the wires as this telegram and his message of the 26th instant.
It is remarkable that princes seem to be the chief stumbling-block to Reuter's success at the present time, for It is only the other day that he alectrified the East with the startling Intelligence set forth below, which when compared with a telegram on, the same subject supplied of the Siam Observer, viê| Rangoon, at once modifies the opinions formed of what appeared to be, to say the least of it, an act of indiscretion of which Prince Hohenlohe could hardly have been guilty. The message referred to read as follows:-15
*JURUTER'S. Prince Hohenlohe re gards the new German settlements at Tientsis and Hankowa inade quate, and strongly urges the acquisition of the Chusan island re- gardless of the ill-will of other Powers.
"BIAM OBSERVER."
A memorial has been addressed to the Ger, man Chanceller urging that the concessions at Tientsin & Hankow are altogether inadequate. The memorialists urge that the Chasan Islands abould be acquired, quite regardless of any fil-will which action might excite on the part of the other Powers.
We are inclined to belleve that the Stam Oberver's is the correct version, and that the German Chancellor, whatever his Intentions may be in respect to the advisa bility of getting a footing on the continent

THE "RUNGPAI” DISASTER,-
A correspondent of our Shanghai morning contemporary, writing from Tientsin on the 26th ultimo, gives the following thrilling details of the recent lose of the Chin Merchants steamer Kungpaf and the chocking scenes withered on board after the explosion which resulted in such terrible loss of lfs :------
„We have at last some news of the Kungpat, The four is now fairly estimated at four hundred and fifty; but your readers will not be surprised if they see the (military) official reture given About fifty. The only European survivor (Mr. Fröm) is in Tientalo, but has not so far been interviewed formally. It is understood from his private statement that there was gelbs, of steam in the boilers before the first explosion, which was doubtless a gunpowder or ammunition accident. The ship caught fire, and officers and crew proceeded to try and suppress it. While dolog so the second and greater explosion took place. The third engineer was unconscious of every thing that happened between his personal efforts forward at the fire, fixing the bose, and finding himself lying on the deck.
