It is atated that on Sunday the Hindus organised a big procesalon for the purpose of carrying the Ganpatils through | the town for Immersion in the river, the procession being headed by the Collector, on horseback, the Deputy Collector, the Mamiotdar and the Foardar. On the Masjid being reached the Mohamedane came out and asked the Collector to have the music stopped. The Collector having, it is asserted, declined
Mohamedans issued from the Masjid and made a servo attick on him, besting him with sticks and striking him with their fists. The Collector is reported to be severely injured.

In the first place as to our grievances. We are neither Earogan nor Chinery; neliher (in many cues) Christians nor healbens, nor idolaters. On the 17th inst, with thren maila-vir, the English from home, the Canadian and the Shanghai coast mall-there may have been some excuse for refusing to deliver letters before 10.30-though this I doubt but certainly this morning, with nothing but the coast malls from Shanghat to be sorted, there was no excuse for delay of delivery until 8.30. Does it take one hour and a half to sort the mail from Shanghal in the Hongkong Post Office, or do they have to sort theantire home mail before the public can get their correspondence ? If the entire mall has to be sorted it shows a bad system, and if not it shows great laxity that it should take so long to set a small local mail. Is it any wonder people grumble at the dishonesty of this branch of the Government Service when what work is done is so unsatisfactorily puformed ?
