THE half-yearly general meeting of the Singapore Sporting Club was held at the Exchange, Singa pore, on the 18th instant. Mr. Sogden prealded, nod there were also present Mesars. Earle, Joaquim, Makepeace, Silven, Murray, Jeffrey, Payne, Gallwey, Adams, and Camming, The Programme-for-the-autumn-race meeting, which. differed only in very trifling detalls from the Spring programme, was submitted. The only | alterations were on the first day, and these had been made, the Chairman said, on the representation of owners who thought it was hard to have to subscribe to sweepstaker when they were forced to sum. The prizes also were the same as were given at the last meeting, The programs as presented was adopted, and the dates fixed for the autumn races were October 22nd, 24th, and 26th.
THE remains of the late Lieut. Omanney, of | H,M.S. Victor Emanuel, whore untimely and we reported in our last lane, were interred this morning at Happy Valley with the usual naval bonours. The cortege was accompanied by the band of the Ride Brigade, and a large number of Naval and Milltary officers attended. Lient, Omanney was 43 years of age, and antecedent to his joining the Victor Emanuel as xat Lien- tenant he was attached to H.M.S. Pembroke, Chatham. The deceased officer had served most of his time on the China and Pacific Stations, and was in Hongkong some years ago in the Daring. During the six months he had been on board the Victor Emanuel the deceased was much liked by his comrades, and his sudden Won by a neck; same between second and loss is much regretted.
