counts reached the figure of...$ 100,393-18 The total loss on the year is ...... 22.898.14 So in spite of heavier charges for interest than to 1893 the loss in 1894 la far less, a result due, on the one hand, to the Improvement in the sale price, on the other, to the saving realised. Given these figures we are, WA thick, fully justified in asserting, and indeed, It may be easily deduced from an examination of the balance sheet of 1894, that the Company is on the bigh read la profits on the day on which it is relieved from the charges that hamper it and when it is la possession of a sufficient working capital, an event which may be realised thanks to a scheme which will shortly be fald before you. Arfir as regards our output the quality of our screened coal and of our briquettes is more and more appreciated, as much in Tonqule, where the Admlaisiration of the Pro- tectorate takes regular supplies for the navy, for the Custom's launches, for the Public Worki and for the Rescences as at Hongkong, where we find a ready market for these descriptions of fuel thanks to their perfect quality. We assert that we! could easily may even Increase one. sales of screened coal and briquelles in noteworthy proportions if our out put permitted it, and as this question depends solely on our financial position, It may, here again, be easily seen box much we should pruft by sa improvement la this position. You maut be aware that nothing should be easier than to double and even triple our output, thanks to the facilities to working presented by our Haton quarry. The question in simply one of labour and is one eally to be determined when we have our hands free our sales of dust coal aro Risc developing, Wohave made a contract with an important Chinese firm in Canton for the delivery of 30,000 tons of dust coal in 1895, and of 43,000 tons in 1896, with option to the Mr. H.
