Where would Japan be. with Russia in force in Korea and all along the northern. frontier of China? With a greedy and deadly enemy at her gates, who knows no mercy and who can bite her time, the destiny of Japan would not be far to seek. Great Bri- tain and Japan have common interests and cause in the Far East, and with a view to securing the peace of the Orient and their own future welfare should, we make bold to assert, be slaunch friends and inseparable allies for all time. By such an alliance only can we hope to see a much-needed adjustment of the balance of legitimate power in Eastern Asia.
