A Chinaman charged with altempting to bribe some soldiers engaged in the cleansing operations in Chian-town was discharged with- out friel by request of the Acting Attorney General, who stated that the evidence was insuf- ficlent to justify a conviction.

THE "SELKIRK" SCANDAL. Genige McGrady, late member of the crew of the Selkirk, was charged with committing an unnameable offence, on board the Brtilsh ship Selkirk, on thehigh seas on the 13th of February and several other dates. Mr. A. J. Lesch (Acting Attorney-General) Instructed by Mr. A. B labnson (Crown Solicitor) prosecuted, and Mr. E. Robinson watched the case on behalf of Cept. Crowe, lata master of the Selkirk. Prisoner, who pleaded "not guilty," was undefended. ·
