(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
Hinko, December zut There is but little ging on here that would interest the outside world. Trad: with Se-chuon has somewhat revived but is a ili very slack, and thi although there are now greater facilities given by the steamship companies than ever before. There are now no de'entions of goods as formerly; but there are so many abips on the | route that there to one continuoas scramble for { freight, and still the reamers seldom get holl-fall of cargo. This is certainly a great contrast to the way in which the trade was carried on a few years go, when the China Mer- chauls Co, had the business in their own bands. The brilant management, of that
concera seemed to do all it could to kill the trade. The Company wou'd only ron one steamer, which drew so much water that she was practically parless during low
water, being able to carry but very little cargo. So a large portion of the trade was carried on under transit pass, and passengers preferred to travel by Native boat rather than by a steamer that could not be relied upon. She some mes took twelve days to get up to Ichang; lightering, landing cargo on the beach, andering it wet were of fie- quent recurrence using much delay and dusatisfaction. There was no consideration for merchants' ints esis or the requirements of the trade because there was no opposition. Now, however, a change has come over the scene. The other two compiales bare bath sitable boats and am le godown accommodation, and the Cbiza Merchants Co have been forced to do somethi g. Now they have two ships quite sufficient to carry the whole trade between Hankow and Ichirg. Their new steamer would probably be a good vessel for the lower river bu for the Ich ng trade sho

Now there is on profit is the trade for any one.
