THE owners of the steam ferry launch Pune tuality were charged by Sergeant Niven at the Police Court to-day with carrying an excess of passengers. Mr. Northcote, Secretary of the Steam Launch Company, appeared for defendants the fare and submitted that according to sheet there had only been the proper sumber carried, but that it was very dificult to pre- vent passengers from crowding on board without the Captain's knowledge. Sergeant Niven deposed that on the 24th inst, at 3.45.p.m he went along ide the sld launch whilst she was plying between Hongkong and Yaumati and counted the passengers. In order to do so properly he made, some of them come sheard the police with him. He found 108 adults and a children launch and took the first defendant, the Captals, or tro all said, whereas the passenger licence only allowed her to carry 99 and a crew of six or tog sil told.
