There are just four buildings left at Virginia,s thriving miring town of 3,500 inhabitants before the fire Mountain Iron is practically wiped out, and Piwabik has suffered great damage. So far as can be learned to-night the loss has been con- fined to the destruction of property. No news of loss of le has been received yet gravo fears aro entertained lest there may have been deaths to some of the numerous mining camos that cover the range. It is reasonably cestals that there has been great mort lty at several of the towns destroyed. The trial of Ursula Unfug, one of the most notorious women in the Northwest, for the murder of her lover or possibly her husband, "Thomas Henderson Boyd, editor of the Olympian, on December and to this city, was beguc in the Superior Court to-day. Notesimony was taken, but the defense, in questioning jurors, abowed that insanity is to be a part of its line.
It is a foregone conclusion that the defendant will be acquitte, although the deed was most foul. The influences which have been working to kill the case can be traced to those who were most intimate with Boyd.
One of the most conspicuous figures in the case is Rev. William Cirnes, who has farnished the money to procure counsel, and from the manner in which he follows the handsome muidereas about many believe that he is Infatuated with her. he has beer at liberty on 15,000 bail, and the two principal witnesses cannot be found.
