According to a report in the Chinese papers of the 4th inat, a foreign steamer has been. burnt on the coast of Japse. The name of the place where this is alleged to have happened is not mentioned, but it is sited that the captain was ashore at the time and no lives were lost.

Aiad accident accurred some, time ago here, when a poor old min, over sixty, went to bara paper at the graven. There being a high wind blowing at the time, the lighted paper was blown into his wadded clothes, which took fire, and as there was nobody around to help the old man, his clothes were actually burnt off hits and like was 'toon extinct. "THE Engines of the Chop-chaung warn Wanchal, and are of the Compound Inverted Cylinder Direct-Acting Surface Condensing type, Cylinders 201 and 387 dia, with a stroke of 26, The Crank Shaft is 6" dia. at the Crank pin and 7” die at the Journals. The HP. Platon Rod is 3" and the LP. 31" dia. The Platom and Connecting Rod bolts are a" día,, Air Pump 143” dia, by 13 stroke, Single Acting Circulating Pump 8" dia. by 13" stroke, and Double Acting Food and Bilge Pump (one each) 3” dis, by 13′′ stroke.

These Engines have been very Httle used and are in thoroughly good order.
The Boller is of the Horizontal Multitubular type, with three Furnaces and vertical Doms on
measurements; Furuses, aft, 7o dia; Doma, measurements of 3 by glt row long, external 44" dia. by ft. high Tubes, 184 in number by 3o ex dia. It is in fairly good condition, having recently undergone considerable repairs, and the roth day of June, 1893, at 4 P.M., are pabe❘ would last in active service for over five yeaIE, llabed for general information.
