The following story of a stolen gun to laterest ing. The real owner of the gun, said to be worth 8 cattles, was H. E. Chow Sal, from whose lawful posacsaton it found its way into one of the local pawnshops at Bangkok. There the gun changed hands again, for Mr. Lavigiano, on coming to learn of the fatrinsic value of the weapon, struck a bargain with the pawnshop keeper and took over the changed hands again for the third time. The gun then became the property of Captale Buthmann, who priding himself on his new acquisition happened to show it to the real owner, who has at last got back his missing gun.
As an example of the high-handed proceedings which are carried on by farmers, we may men a case which came on before the British tion Consulate the other day. Some British subjects went down x-fishing to Paklat and the fish- firmer of that village, without the slightest Justification for his strange act, seized their nets and positively refused to give them up. A com plafat was lodged with the British Consul, which led to some correspondence with the local authorities, and the flab-farmer was ordered to restore the nets to the rightful owners. Besides
this he was ordered to pay a compensation of 30 Ticals for the worry and trouble the unoffending fishermen were put to by his acilon.
March 30th. Mr. Fowke, after remaining bere a week, agreed to an arrangement by which the differences between him and his partner Mr. Murray Campbell are to be submitted to arbitration In another place. Rather a pity, from the point of view of the reader of local journals, as lawsults between paitpere engaged in a work of "public utility" generally lead to disclosures of an amusing and instructive kind.
What proved to be a most cowardly and premeditated assault took place on Tuesday Afternoon, when the Editor of the Siam Fres Prets on his way to the City was set upon by an armed gang of natives and seriously injured under the following circumstances.

From the above it will be clear to our readers that the attack, was a premeditated one. Mr. Lillie had previously made an appointment with Khoon Rong Bamrong to meet him at the Borispah Court, and the ruffians were therefore kept in readiness to watch him on ble way to the Chy. Then, the non-interference of the police is not to be wondered at considering that the Inspector himself was a consenting party to the remember that the very pay sisu be well to that this Inspector was at school with Prince Swasti as bla factotum in England.
Stace writing the above we learn from Mr. French that the chief assailant was arrested on the spot and taken to the gaol and that the Consulate is in communication with the Foreign Oce in the matter.
In reply to several inquiries we may state that Mr. Lille is steadily recovering from his wounds ander the doctors' care and it may be hoped that he will be himself again in a low dayi.--- Fru Prin
