It appears that the Haiphong was going at half-speed when the laaster occurred. At the time of writing she is high on the bank and firmly imbedded, whilst her bottom is said to have sustained considerable injury, the extent of which, however, is hard to ascertain, as those Interested are careful not to reveal too much.

The German stemmer Krim, which got ashorn whilst commiendably endeavouring to assist the Haiphong, was floated off safely without having received any apparent injury. Everything is favourable for salving the cargo of the stranded steamer, calm but somewhat foggy weather prevalling.

Judge Franqueville, amid a prolonged uproar, rebaked M. M. Charles de Lesseps stated that Floquet asked for and obtained 300,000 francs from the Panama Company for distribution amongst the sewspapers which opposed the late General Boulanger. M. de Lesseps' coolness and frankness ate fa strong contrast with his previous caution, He is evidently disposed to reveal everything. He reproached, the judge for trying to shelter the Government.
