THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH
The Share Market.
October 8th,
A fair amount of business in a quiet way has been arranged during the week, hut it can scarcely be fairly said that the market generally shows any decided improvement. Banks have again dropped to 95 per cent. premium, at which rate a few small lots changed hands, but there are further nellers. It is reported that the Bank of China's scrip has been rather extensively sold in London, at as low as nine «perice"

per share, but no doubt-this-is-owing to the transfer "boycott" which has been so much talked about lately. In Founders' shares we heard of business having been done at £19, China Traders have been in demand during the week, and some transactions at 58 were booked, and the stock la now firm at that rate. China Fires have been placed at 85). A fair business-The Hongkong High-Level Tramway Co.,
Limited-$40 per share, sellors. has been reported in Hongkong Hotels at 25 and additional shares could be placed at the same price. Austin Arms are friendless at 44. China Sugars are now on offer at 147, but there is no demand at present. Luzons are ominously out of favour, doubtless owing : to some mysterious rumours that have been in circulation for some little time past, and which nobody seems able to trace. Notwithstanding the favorable report of the Jelebu Company, the scrip is decidedly under, suspicion, and offers to sell at 54. after one or two minor transfers, were not responded to: Charbonnages ...are in a trifle better odour, with buyers at 115. We expect to see the shares of this Company come with a rush one of these fine days, and that at no 'far distant date: Hongkong Land Invest- ments have been sold at 59. but no shares are now available unless at a higher figure...
