(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

September 14th The Yellow River has broken loose again. Fourteen distelcis at least hava suffered. Twenty miles NE of the city a break, one-third of a mile long, is reported, through which tenths of the river's water is pouring. The other three-tenths are for the most bart spreadlog over the country thregba break in the north bank, about fifty miles from this city, leaving the original channel without wa'er. This same thing happened alx or seven years ago, when one of our Chinan-fa misionaries crossed the channel of a few months before on foot. The break, twenty miles from here, is at a place called Sa-kou, on the south bank of the firer. From this break the water finds it way to the sea through the districts of Chang-chio, Ch-long; | Ch'ipg-ch'eng, Chang-shan, Choo-plog and Pe 5-shing, and' perhaps others. The districts first named auffer most heavily. In conversation yesterday with a former magistrate of Chi-tong district, be stated that go per cent, of that district was under water. He estimated that part of Chang-Ch'in north of the bills, to be ge per cent. under water, From the break to the ses is certainly not less than rgo miles Parnlici with the Yellow River on the south is a small stream known as the Halso Ching-ho, At Its mouth is the small port, Yang Chik-kon,

Whether or not anything of this kind exists in the minds of stesmihip masters, there has been nevertheless a lamente able number of collisions between steamers and sailing vessels both in fair weather and times of fog. When a railonal system of fog signals shali bave been adopted, we may hope that this plan with steamers of striving to `get the first chance to knock each other out, so to speak, will cease. —N. Y.
