ents of the Bill that it could do nothing, that it repeating forth that it
bave never seen credit so curtailed in Hongkong,. Shanghal, or in other places of the East Credit canalled accommodation is denied, financialTacl lities are almost impossible. I doubt very much whether any bank manager-wo have well known manngers h re, 1 see Mr De Bavis, the Hon. T. H. Whitehead, the member for the Chamber, and Mr. Rutter all tell us that within two or three months, time this stringency will be thing of the past. If you modify this Bill so that you have the power in bay forward, I think you will find that many of the present holders will come into the market, who are unable to get financial facilities, hay forward to the end of December say, and if the money market fa will stringent whentime cames for delivery, they will be unable to take delivery and you will see these shared thrown back again, doing harm to all who have, been concerned with them. These are two reasons outside the abers brought before you why I Intended to vote for Mr. Bell-Irving's resolution. If we have to decide solely on the qa siion of Mr. Bell-Irving's resolation or Mr. possible arrangement. I wish thi Chamber would show its common pense and be unanimons now, and say in uis months hence I thiek aur finances will be in a firmer condition anting diffent state of things generally wit extat. I bring forward the following amerdment:That in the opinion of this Chamber it is nesirable at mesent to make any change in ordinance 15 of 1861, known as the Share Bill, but that H. E. the Governor be requested to be good enough to refer the same lugary bick to the Chamber of Commerce six

Some good-natured friend, with the best Intentions no doubt, har sent us a copy of printed circalar beaded "Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce and signed "Adam Lind, Acting Secretary," Awesome that Mr. Lind is merely the mouthpiece of the Com- quittee of the Chamber and has only done what be was instructed to do and there are at least a dozen prosa blunders in the literary effait for which be takes the responsibility, so he hasnt performed his mission too well-we do not pro pase makng this a personal matter, but will deal with it as if it directly emanated from the Almighty Committee who make such a tremen.. doas fuas in doing nothing, or very little beyond calling each other bad names. Here is the cir cular, which wo willingly advertise gratuliously:- HONGKONG GENERAL.. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Notice to Subscribers to Rauter's Political Telegrams.
The attention of the Chamber of Commerce has been called to the fact that a local news paper, which does not subscribe to the service of telegrams, is in the habit of publishing them in advance of the time agreed upon with the subscribing newspapers.
