ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE,
At the adjourned Criminal Sessions this morning Chung Along was indicted with feloniously entering house in Wellington woman, and mobbing the women of a pair of Street on the 16th ultimo, sesaling a man and gold car-rings,
The prisoner, who was defended by Mr. E. Robinson, Instructed by Mr. C. D. Wilkinson, pleaded not guilty. The prosecution was conducted by Mr. A. J. Leach, Acting Attorney- General, instructed by the Crown Selleltor.
The following Jurymen were empanelled :-- Merr. H. A. T. Witte, Nell MacDonald, G. L Tomlin, A., dos Remedios, Walter McAslin, O. Geschwind, and C. F. W. Petersen,
The Attorney-General said the prisoner - Was charged with what was generally described as 10bbery with violence. On the 16th June last it was said the prisoner and another man went to the first floor of a house in Wellington Street where the complainant, Chung Ching- Pu, schoolmaster, was living. A man "crited out that he had a letter from Macao, and thereupon the complainant opened the door and at once a was struck with a sword. In the scuffle which ensued the complainant's wife was also struck but on hearing the sound of for the near by the visitors ran away. Then the woman missed her gold earrings. About an hour after the alleged robbery the woman took the police to a house where she pointed out the prisoners one of the men who had committed the robbery. The prisoner had been known to the woman and her husband for some time prior to the robbery. It would be or the fury to decide whether the complainant and his wife were mistaken as to the identity of the prisoner and had brought this was raining at the time the robbery was said to have been committed, and a wet umbrella was found on the premises occupied by the prisoner. The complainant said he knew the umbrella fa question to be the one he had previously seen In the paisoner's possession.
