In the House of Commons last night, Mr. Balfour, in replying to a question, and that Parliament would be dissolved on the 18th or #gth instant.
From what we coult learn it appears the weather was very foggy as the sinseng began to get near the Promontory, the thick mist hang- ing all round in dense banks. About two hours before the accident the N.E. Light was sighted and a miscalculation appears to have been made as to the distance from the island, the Captala evidently thinking It lay much further to the south-west than lì did, short time before she struck the vessel was going slow, but at the time of the accident, we are told, she was going full or nearly full speed, and there WIE a strong tide setting to the south, which helped no doubt, to carry the steamer' on to the fatal reef. The Captain was on the bridge and the second mate was on duty at the time she struck. The fires were put out immediately by the larush of water, which poured into her at a tremendous rate, and there was nothing to be done but get the passengers off and wait for assistance. The fog was very dense at the time, but the sea was quite sinmonth. The steamship Poecht, with the sairage pasty. in here last evening for the scene of the wreck.
