AT YOKOHAMA, the other day, a coolle being pressed for cash sold his 8 year old daughter to a Chinaman for the fabulous sam of sen 6 25, but before effecting the sale he was foolish enough not to square the police; hence the tears and vain regrets that followed. The father was antested and placed in prison, as was also a woman (they will cicep in somehow) who acted as go-between the business. The difficulty was eventually solved by the coolle repudiating the sale, and bis daughter was returned to him by the authorities. The chairman stated that the directers had no objection to the proposed reduction of fees. The requisition sent in for the calling of the meeting. wasnot signed by a sufficiently large proportion of shareholders to be legally valid, but as the Hoard did not wish to stand in the way of shareholder they called the meeting by their own verted power. The rate of remuneration had been fixed when the Company's prospects seemed very, bright, and it was better to reduce it now,

Mr. Holmes then moved, Mr. Musto seconded, and the meeting passed the tenolation as adver tised, that the Articles of Association be altered so as to reduce the directors' fees to one tenth. Thli concluded the business of the meeting.

TO THE EXTOR OF THE "Horakowa Talighark." : SIR-In the China Mall of the 22nd inst appears a notice calling the Annual General Meeting of the above named Club, rald notice being signed by "A. Denison."

under the reading of "Hon. Secretary ;" and on information, and find his name on the first page the last page beigas the report as such but this must be a mistake, as Mr. Denison is not a member of the Club. "How then can he be the Hon. Secretary?

The commitice in submlting their report for 1891 slate that many of the members have not paid their subscriptions for that year." Such crass ignorance of the Articles of Association on the committee's part is almost beyond belief. Do they really think the members will swallow this report as a correct statement of the affales of the Club ? Let me inform the committee that any person who did not pay his subscription prior to the 31st of March, 1891, ceased to be a member on that date according to Article 24
