The raging sea must have been violent, because most Japanese are expert swimmers; but out of the crew of eight on board the Ono Mars not one survived to tell the terrible tale.

The occurrence teak place at night and was not observed from the shore. Very probably the tug, which is stated to have been of about 10 tons carrying capacity, was deeply overlader besides towing the three boats, and what might bave been undertaken with perfect fe y in the smooth water of the river, caused a catastrophe in the bay.
