HEWEEK'S SHARE "BUSINESS;
Hongkong, October 19th.
The past week has been a suggestively quiet one, and prospects of a change for the better are the reverse of encouraging. Hongkong and Shanghal Banks have, occupied most attention, although the transfors effected have been comparatively "trifling. As confidently predicted in our report dated the 3rd instant the quotation has ominously dropped from 167 to 160 per cent. premium, and the stock is now weak, with sellers at the latter rate. Some feeble efforts have been made to keep up. the rate current, but they proved quite unavailing. There cannot be the alightest doubt that these shares are still quoted preposterously above their actual value, but no doubt Renpick's Share Bill will bring them down to their proper level between now and the end of the year.

The Bank of China, Japan and the Straits scrip has attracted very little altention. A few shares have changed hands at 143, and they continue weak at that Agure. Founders' shares are now offering at £135, so it is certain that some of the elect have weakened and lost confidence.
