In the sitting of the French Chamber of Deputies on the 19th ult, M. They had gone to Tonquin, and must now remain there; but they were threatened with a great misfortune the necessity of again despatching a large force to the Far East, Three years ago the colony was quiet, now the very reverse was the case. The step had been taken with quin. view to conciliating public opinion. M. de Montfort went on to say that at Cho-Bo the Militia deserted to the enemy. The colony was in a state of anachy, and the Government was to blame for having kept the truth from the country. He wanted to know what steps the Ministry intended to take. M. Etienne, Under Secretary of State, admiited that acts of piracy had been increasing in Tonquin, bạt declared that the battalion of soldiers sent from Cochin-China had sufficed to restore a normal stale of things. At present the situation was not in any way worse, but was, on the contrary, improving.
