The attendance, was only moderate at first, but as the afternoon advanced a fairly large number of anectators, Including many of the fair sex, assembled in the Grand Stand and enclosure. The host was in tense and was very much agalust the accomplish- ment of last times—in any nothing of heris on record-In the flat races or any other events of the varied programme. However, all passed off satisfactorily, the net result being an enjoyable afternoon's sport, Special interest was centered in the Veterans' race which was pulled off by Mr. A. Rodger in 131-5th sec

No sitting down No holes to be dug in the ground before pulling. To be decided by one pall.Prizes presented by the Club Germania. This contest, which usually causes no small amount of interest to be centred on it, proved rather a medley this year, and indeed legal advice (gralis for once) had to be called in to decide what teams were qualified to pull. After a sort of Kilkenny-cat business a Naval team, with the greatest of ease, pulled eight men from the Regiment orer the line, after which performance they tackled a Police team which was supposed to be formed solely of men who hailed 'fras north of the Tweed;' and this task: the Navy men also performed with consummate

STEEPLY-CHASE. (HALF-WILR)—9 Tumps. Prise presented by J. V. V. Vernon, Esq. A farce which had not even any redeeming element of fun in it. Five men started in what was more an obstacle race of a childish nature
than a steeplechase. Jackson won easily, with Laing a fair second.
CONSOLATION RACE 120 YARDS-Post Entries. Open to all competitors (except those in events Nes, 2, 7..and 12) who have run but not won a prize. Prize presented by the Hon.

The Directors are giving their earnestattention to an extension of the machinery plant. Certain apparatus is here awaiting erection and only requires motive power to place it in working order. For this purpose every endeavour being made to ensure the payment of, at least, so much of the overdus cills and interest an will caver the cost of this extension. I have every hope, therefore, that within the coming half-year the daily output will have been so increased a to show a most satisfactory result of the present year's working.
