THE Chinese authorities of Kwangtung cole brated the close of the old year by getting rid of a number of criminals who had been arrested at various times during the year. It is said that over 300 criminals were sent to the scene of their crimes to pay the death penalty. On Saturday last six pirates were sent from Canton to Kowloon City and were made a head shorter early on Sunday morning, their bodles being burled shortly afterwards in the sand on the beach,

Chin Kang Yau, a man who, since his arrest by the police of Chinese Kowloon, has confested to having been one of the gang that. attacked the Namoa, has been sent up to Canton for trial. This is the man who was tried for piracy at the Hongkong Police Court and arguitted about a year ago, in connection with the piracy of a junk near Shap ki-wan, It was held by the magistrate on that occasion that the mere fact of stinkpots, revolvers, Extras...........

I hear one of our best known residents, the former harbour-master, Captain Ferdinand Märel, has resigned from the Customs Service, to establish himself no a general merchant and commission agent at our port. A competition for the Subscription Challenge Cup and the five and six hundred yard "Spoons" was held at the Kowloon range on Saturday afternoon. Thirteen competitors toed the line, and an interesting competition ended in favor of Mr. E. Robinson (scratch),, who put on 12 points at 500 and 29 at 600 yards, winning by one point only from Lieut.
