THE embezzlement case, Dross Opium Farmer versus Hu Chong Ku, accountant, came on for hearing in Mr. Wise's parlour at the Magistracy this morning. Mr. Massop conducted the pro- secution, and Mr. Caldwell defended. It was maintained that the defendant had embezzled the sum of grog 80 belonging to his employer, by holding on to certain sub-licensees' fees which it was his duty to collect and hand over to the chief cashier of the firm. The case stands remanded for week, bail being fixed in one surety of five hundred dollars.
