Inform us that the Company's steamer Shanghai left London on the 19th inst; for this port, It is said that only one white man has ever crossed the island of Newfoundland from east to west, a distance of three or four hundred miles, and this journey was accomplished more than sixty years ago.
IT Im't everybody who knows how the term "cravat" originated. Here is the story. The Cravates or Croates soldiers (1661) wore a band of stuff around their throats to support an amulet they wore as a charm to protect them from sabre cuts.
