On the night of the zih ult, a Chinaman entered Mr. Griffith's bed-room, in Ice-House Lane, and stole a gold watch' which was lying on a small table near the bed. The thief had climbed up the scaffolding which is around the building, and entered the room by a small open window. When brought before Mr. Robinson at the Police Court this morning the prisoner stated that his father had given him the watch, but this excuse being too fishy for the magistrate he was pentenced to six months in gaol, with hard labour.

À CORRESPONDENT Writes from Fatsban, under Saturday's date It may interest you to know that there was a rather severe earthquake shock felt at Fatahan at 9.55 to-night. It lasted for nearly a couple of minutes, the wave of disturbance seeming to move to the westward. There was first a trembling, gradually increasing in severity, then two or three somewhat alarming shocks, accompanied by a rumbling sound as of distant thunder or anfilery, then another brief period of tremor, and so the disturbance passed away. I have not heard of any damage being done, but the people were much alarmed, and said to one another that it must be a great dragon passing.
