PARIS, July 25th. The crops throughout the country, except in the section east of the Rhone, have been destroyed by the incess it rains. The official reports from the great wheat district of Lablange state that the crop is rotting. The losses are estimated at 500,000,000 francs. Dealers in grain discount the scarcity, and the price of bread is rising,

A special dispatch. from Belgrade to this morning's Temps, the most conservative and reliable paperin France, announces that ex-King Milan, feeling that he is legally free to matry again, will shortly take to himself as wife a young American lady of great wealth whom he met last winter in Paris,

The name of the lady is not given, but the truth of the story is vouched for. The ex-King's affairs are, however, in a badly complicated condition in Paris, and only a little while ago his "creditors were clamorous to a point that threatened to develop into a scandal.

Defendant denied that it had been agreed to pay $1 per share brokerage; the. Arrangement was that the shares were and at more than $15 per share, all surplus should go to plaintiffs. The shares not having been sold, there could be no claim.

Plaintiff went into the box to support the state- ment of counsel. He denied that any agreement was made by which the broker was to take all in excess of $15 per share. The agreement, not specified in the contract but verbilly made before the contract was closed, gave him $1 ner share if he sold at $16. He did sell at $6, though defendant afterwards cancelled the. contract.

American young lady is expected to pay. It is certain that some soothing, influence has been at work to pacify these creditors. Where a few weeks ago they were ready to be noisy and offensive, they have now nothing to say beyond that everything is being arranged to their satisfaction. Inquiries at the Washington Club to-night tend to verify the Temps dispatch. Riggs and Reitlinger, Americans, have been created Knights of the Legion of Honor for their services to French trade, but more expecially for the work they did in connection with the French Exposition last year.

Lord Salisbury speaking at a banquet given last night at the Mansion House to Her Majesty's Ministers dwelt on the growing prosperity of Egypt which he raid was due to the energy of successive Ministers, also to Sir Evelyn Baring and his subordinates. His lordship hoped the time would come when Egypt would be able to do without England, but that times had not yet arrived. The withdrawal of British Forces from Egypt depended greatly on the other antiors who are able to either advance or retard . their departure.

His lordship wished to see the plaintiff's note to defendant, claiming his commission. This did not exist, however. Plaintiff had not rendered any account to his principal (the defendant) or made any formal application.

Defendant, sworn, stated that plaint ff asked him, in March, 1889, to reserve to him goo shares at $15, the market price then being $16 Plaintiff was to get any profit over the $15 on selling. He did not sell the goo, but sold 300 and took too himself. Plaintiff and Tan Hum Hoon got him to cancel the contract, in view of possible larger transactions, and at the same time it was agreed that plaintiff would not have anything. A slight mutiny has broken out in the Royal | Hors Artillery detachment at Exeter. The men accased allege the harsh treatment of their officers ns the reason for their conduct.

It is stated that several officials at Suez are undeniably suffering from cholera, but the fact Is concealed by the authorities.

At the annual meeting of the Bank of Bombay, the Chairman referred at length to the silver question. He said that the rupee value of produce had declined in almost exact proportion to the advance in exchange, and the whole produce of the country had been suddenly changed in value by fifern or twenty per cent What the effect would be no one could say, but many fortunes would be affected in the process. The great and steady increase in the trade of India in recent years had been concurrent with a falling exchange, and it was in his opinion Impossible without some anxiety and sense of the necessity of great cauties, to look at change which had altered the condition of the working of this great trade,
